Saturday 3/18

Saturday 3/18

Went to bed last night thinking I would stay at Capital Reef another couple of nights. There are a lot of nice hikes and drives and I could easily stay two days. But my scotch blood kept sayin’ there are better places for free! There are a lot of Back Country Byways in this area and my wandering spirit wants to take them and explore. Here’s what I learned:
(1) I don’t have to go to the end of the road to know that it is the end of the road.
(2) Getting out and walking up or around or down the road to see what is there is ALWAYS a good idea.
(3) I don’t like washboard
So I pack up this morning and head towards Moab. I actually got on a Interstate today! Turned south on US191 and headed south. More traffic than I care for so I was looking for a wild spot the whole way. Dalton Wells Road had a nice ring to it. Off I go. There are numerous RV and multiple tent site just wild camping off the road. I continue to follow the road and it gets a little sketchy real quick, I slowly creep to the top of a 10-15′ rise and look over, …nope, back down and find a place off the road and walk back and up the hill. Good idea Harry! It was PITA trouble and no turn around. So I walk up into another area and decide it will work. Damn, good cell coverage, tons on bike trails and free!
Bike is down and clean and I plan on staying here for a day or two.
