Saturday 4/1
Rained off and on again last night. Cold this morning. 38 in the camper. I moved the thermostat so I don’t have to get out of bed to turn the heater on. I turn the heater OFF at night. Normally a sheet, a thin fleece blanket and a comforter is sufficient. I wear fleece pants and my Custom Plumbing orange sweatshirt that has a hood and hand warmer to bed. Makes for quick pees at night. Now I also have a sleeping bag spread over. With that addition I haven’t been cold.
On the road before 8:00. Had decided last night to make a small detour to Monument Valley. I am so glad I did. It’s been awhile since I been into the valley and had forgotten how awe inspiring it is. Right up there with Glacier / Yellowstone / Grand Canyon. And for a guy who likes to drive slow, paradise. Speed limit 15 MPH, if I got to 10 MPH I would be surprised. At a idle the rig does 5 or so. Perfect. THERE IS SO MUCH TO SEE. With the high clouds moving across, the shadows are constantly changing the view. I started the 17 mile drive at 9 and came up the last winding rocky dirt road after 1. It was bitch’en.
The Navajos control this tight. $20.00 entrance. No driving other than “THE” road. Only ONE small hiking trail in the whole park and that at the beginning. They have a huge NICE gift/restaurant/motel with a view that is……. So the only way to get off trail is to hire a Navajo guide for walking or horseback or pickups with school bus seats on platforms on pickups. Lot nicer than I described it. They get to go a different route. I like that they understand how to control this monopoly and protect this national treasure.
Continued on US163S to Kayenta. Then US160E to AZ59. AZ59 one of those roads less traveled. That got me back onUS191S right at Canyon de Chelly (Shay). Chinle, Arizona is the little town by the
Monument.
The semi plan is to head down US191S or parallel to it on Arizona highways. I’m looking for golf courses now. None up in the north but the farther south I get the better the chance. I wore my stocking cap all day today, in fact, still have it on. No stocking caps / no sleeping bag. That means south!
P.S. I just transferred the pictures, gosh I love my camera!

Great pictures Harry. Would like to have a painting of your lead picture for a wall in my house. Looks like you’re doing well. Looking to get some practice for Colorado Springs? Are you getting any target practice? Snowing some here. Keep your wits about you and your 10 close.
These pictures are so amazing! Glad you are having fun, but the girls miss you!!! Everyday I get a, “When is Papa coming home?!” Travel safe!
