Friday 4/7
Very seldom do I leave something to mark my camp spot. I’ve learned to pack everything up, if you come back, fine. Headed to historical Safford downtown. Small city square. County seat also. Got a paper then the golf course for some chipping, putting and driving range. Busy for a Friday afternoon. left to explore Gila Riparian Box Area.
The Gila’s river is drinking and irrigation. But they have set aside a 23(?) mile corridor that follows the river. It’s hot, high 80s so the river is nice. Super, Riverview Campground w/ nice picnic tables and fire pit. The road to this area is 3/4 of a lane.Tight, honk your horn on the way around blind corner! One other camper + host there. Beautiful, little walk to the river. The desert is alive! The ocotillos are so cool(long spiny w red/yellow flower)
I pick out old #7 and pay $5 for two nights! Ya baby! Walk down to the river and Walt the host comes by to BS. They had a herd of big horn till yesterday, I’ll keep my eye out uncle D and see if I can bag you a trophy! Just a small undiscovered oasis in the desert. Going to stay tomorrow too. There are a couple of little hikes to take.
BBQ another steak! Beautiful evening. Calm but cool enough for a fire (close enough). I am still working on the second bundle of fire wood I picked up the first week….. a month ago? I guess. Easy day tomorrow.
