Tuesday 4/4

Tuesday 4/4

Owl Creek was a nice quiet campsite and had a little bit of hiking. Left out early like 7:50 MST but Arizona doesn’t use daylight savings time but the Navajo Nation does. It gets confusing.

Safford, AZ and the megalopollis reminds me of where I grew up. Same kind of valley surrounded by mountains and agriculture. Drove around a bit, found all the essentials, and headed to Mt. Graham Golf Club.

Think King Ranch. Little bit of water but mostly flat. Four station driving range and a 20×20 putting green. Enough! Got the low down on the “Valley Card” and checked out the locker room. (Showers!) Windy….too windy to play today. But I got all the info.

Two camping choices mountains or valley floor. I head up 366 camping 11 miles. 11 miles of curves road that switchback up the mountain. Lots of exposure. Not my favorite. Past a really nice turnout with water and a little bridge but continue on to the first campground. Drive thru the little campground didn’t like the looks of the only camper there (California) so headed back down to the valley. But let me check out this bridge/water area. Picnic area but more than enough room for Bill. Parked it and spent the afternoon sitting by the creek reading and enjoyed the sun. No one said move so spent the night. Cold. 6500′ – 38 degrees, had to turn heater on. A wonderful place!

Golf tomorrow!
