Where have I been? Holy crap. I have had my fill of old California. I’m preaching revolution everywhere I go. These dumb bastards voted these yehoos in. $4.00 gas is out of line if everywhere else is $2.75. And DON’T buy it on the main road. Camping $40.00, just a place to park, no electric, water, sewer. BUT they got the location! Most campgrounds are clean and have hot showers! Camping for FREE tonight. Dispersal camping Joshua Tree NP. About a hour from Allan&Bev’s.
Long day, left Refugio State Park above Santa Barbara about nine this morning. Took some of California’s roads less traveled. Their roads are good. HWY101 to 150 to 33 to Lockwood Valley Rd to interstate 5 to HWY 138 to 18 to 247, to the park, campground full, to HWY 62 to dispersal camping. The last hour in darkness. I have done piss poor on keeping track of mileage and picture taking but my guess is 250 miles. Too much driving, not enough hiking/ biking.
The more south you go, the busier. Above SF not crowded at all. Bill does a good job. He is a straight steerer and has the POWER when needed, and that was a couple of times today. Driving the freeways are pretty straight forward. I have done a lot of surface traffic also. If you drive HWY 1 like I have, you will do a lot of surface streets. I look the maps over pretty good the night before, so I have a general idea of what I trying to accomplish the next day. But my plans are subject to the least whim. Plus it’s a little less nerve racking, if you miss a turn, when it really doesn’t matter. I’ve been some nice places from wrong turns.
So HWY 1 was my plan and all in all followed it. Crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and followed HWY 1 thru SF all the way to Monterey. HWY 1 is closed south of Monterey so I went inland and went to Pinnacles NP, hoping to camp. Nope, ended up in a regional park in King City.Stayed inland till I got below the land slide and cut back across on HWY 46 above Morro Bay. Left it in Santa Barbara. A long ways, on two lane roads mostly.
Okay, I’m here. Some golfing, some bike riding, some hiking![photogrid ids=”1085,1086,1087,1088,1089,1090,1091,1092,1093,1094,1095,1096,1097,1098,1099,1100,1101,1102″ captions=”yes” columns=”two” fullwidth=”yes” ]
