Thursday 1/25

Nice morning! The best part of a California day. Headed to CA 111 down past the Salton Sea to El Centro and finally exit California at Yuma. Stopped at a day use area at the Sea to walk around and take a few pictures, thought about camping here. I think it’s another option to Joshua Tree. A lot of birds.

I pay the daily fee at all the places that require them. The “johnny” walked down to check. I left the sticker on the dash per instructions as I had walked a couple of hundred yards away. A lady from BC. She liked my ability to follow directions and thanked me. But she REALLY liked that I had paid my fee!

Interstate, interstate, interstate. I8 here we go. This drive could be a lot more fun if we all slowed down to enjoy the desert. Truckers don’t want to participate. They push by Bill & the schooner at a tremendous rate at times. Certainly better than the guy pulling three trailers who is going 1.5 miles faster than us and decides to get us before the uphill. Really pal? That’s when I get my money’s worth! Bill takes a second or two to get everything spinning but when it’s good, it’s good.

Fueled up in Yuma. $3.09 on the interstate. Two blocks off- $2.79. I’m getting wiser. East of Yuma the road goes on forever. I tried the frontage road for 6-7 miles but it was crumbly bad. Lots of pot holes. Back on the main road. I’ve been looking for RV camping off in the desert but so far nothing except right around Yuma. It’s …..desertly. I exit at “Sentinel” a #2 gravel headed off to the south. Okay, this will work. I have learned to not stop at the first spot but to go a little ways and you will be rewarded or… you turn around. I was rewarded tonight. Nice spot, almost perfect but I throw one 2×8 each under the front to make it just that much better!
