Sunday 2/4

A very nice spot at Arenosa Primitive Camping area. Only schooner in the CG. Got up this morning and putted around. Domestic house chores. It’s a small area and everything needs it’s place. I think i have a small leak on the water system. I think behind the new toilet. It’s a plumber’s nightmare. Half inch nipple screwed into existing rubber compression nut and the other end hooks to a 12” fipxfip ss flex that connects to toilet. I think the existing rubber washer might be having some trouble. No sense tearing into it out here. Pretty small leak…but a leak none the less. I was cleaning the bathroom floor when i noticed the problem. Chores.

Used a nice composting toilet this morning. Interesting with separate urinal. No smell. Left the door wide open and had a nice view of the Rio Grande. I rolled, and got back into it’s stuff sack my emergency sleeping bag. I use it on the bed when it bloody cold. It is a real wrestling match to get it small enough to fit in the compression sack. I use the picnic bench and get it accomplished. The temp has been high 70 / low 80 during the day and 50’s at night. The plan: continue heading east to Terlingua, pay for another night in the park, stop and hike Closed Canyon, shoot some GoPro, restock groceries if possible. Oh and find out about fishing. Then head back to Grassy Banks CG and fish if that is possible.

Closed canyon, narrow, but not extreme. I so wanted to just wear my shoes, but put on my boots. Fall regalia, except no REI hat but a baseball style. It’s a interesting dilemma going down some of this stuff. You have to make the decision you can get back up before you go down. A couple had me thinking and looking. Finally a spot i couldn’t get around. I know I was real close to the river but a wide deep water filled section stopped me. Had a safety meeting and wondered if any apaches had seen me enter and i better be on my toes. Loaded up and strapped the green chair to Exos. I know i will need both hands to get out. Now, this pack. Osprey Exos. My first impressions was that i should of bought a large not a med frame. LOTS of adjustability and I’m starting to get it just right. The med frame is right, i just needed too and continue to adjust it. I really like the way it carries a load. Packing the 10 is less of a chore. A couple than a single fella on the way out. A nice start to the morning. Head to Terlingua to pay for another night and there is a small grocery store. Find out you can fish in the park. Load up head back and spend the afternoon fishing, no catching, but a lot of fishing. Big bend National Park tomorrow. Sitting at the picnic bench under a rustic cabana writing tonight. Listening to Mendelssohn on my Zune. Nice. A nice flow today.

Oh GoPro, shot a lot, saved very little. The mount isn’t quite where it needs to be. A heat gun and I’d have it off and remounted. I think it’s going to be good. Just some readjustment. Maybe on top of the schooner? I can control it with the ipad or my phone.
