Friday 2/9

Friday 2/9

Thought today was Thursday. Not that it matters. Enjoyed the early morning at PC3. Took some more pictures and slowly started the 4 miles out. No problem, just slow, suited me this morning. Not everyone was as pokey as me because before i know it i got a dust driver behind me. Really, eat my dust cause there isn’t anywhere to pull over for a couple of miles. I finally scoot into PC1 site to let him by. Older guy, who knows about them…

Hit the pavement and make tracks for Marathon. A couple of miles north of Panther Junction there is a exhibit. As I pull into the little turnout, i say “this is a deja vu moment. Get out and walk up the hill and ya, it’s a deja vu moment because i have been to Nina’s grave before. Walk back to the schooner make another cup of coffee and head down the road to the dinosaur exhibit.

Nice Dinosaur Exhibit. See the pictures. Okay, lets get some miles under our belt cause we have a long ways to go today. Shoot, Dagger Flats 6 miles, just one more side trip. The road is a#4 gravel and the sign says 25 mph so I’ll be there in a jiff…. the road slowly deteriorates to #1 maybe #2 in spots. So 45 minutes later, Dagger Flats…i kept saying “Harry, why do you continue to do this?” So 45 minutes back out and that diversion cost me a couple of hours that i could of spent else where.

US90, lot of trucks, lot of RVs. A decent amount of passing lanes. One tire dragger check point. The country is starting to change. Not SO much desert. Cross the Pecos!!! The Pecos! Big river. There is a SP, Seminole Canyon close to where the Pecos joins the Rio Grande. $10.00. Del Rio 42 miles….all i have is rice and 2 potatoes plus enough cereal for a couple of bowls. Sign me in Amy. #44 is her choice and i see immediately bike trails. 4ish already and a little overcast so i get the bike down and gear up. Forgot (holy doodle, it’s raining!) my binos and decided to take the Canyon Edge Trail. As much pushing as riding. The area reminds me of Natural Bridges, deep drop offs. I dodged cacti the whole way and no flats. Hugh Petroglyphs site that is only accessible by boat. ( Or kayak ) Another nice TX CG. Walked up to check out showers. Curtain pulled across, someone showering. Took a nice walk around the nature path with a stop for a safety meeting. Like 20-25 minutes ( although i did not time it) walk back and still in use. So i couldn’t inspect them but if the guy was in there that long, it must be good! Tomorrow morning I’ll use the dump for the schooner and take a shower before i head to Del Rio.

Great dinner of fried potatoes/garlic/chicken rice makes the schooner smell good…the little bit of rain shower makes the outside smell good. Now, if i could only make my feet smell better. Good night.
