Monday 2/19
Interesting evening last night. The clouds to the southeast were lite up for a couple of hours during a lightning storm but no sound…no aids in, but thunder is in my hearing range. Had to be 100s of miles away. No bolts to see, too cloudy for them, but the sky would lite up. It’s pretty wide open mostly down here so you can see a long ways. Anyways that is the direction I’m going in today.
Pretty much ready to go last night. Just some dishes to do up, roll up the carpet and head east. I have watched and read to much Lonesome Dove cause I’m talking to myself like Call, fixin’ to be gone. Monday morning of a holiday weekend, looks like everyone’s already gone. Nearest metropolis 200-300 miles, more like 400-500 to Austin / San Antonio. We’ll see. I just putz along, stopping here and there, make a cuppa and sit and drink it in a nice movie location. I left at 8:30 and got to Panther Junction at 11:50.About 50 miles. It’s a wonder i get anywhere at times. Bill’s thirst goes up with the amount of pull overs. I read a wonderful quote today “ How sweet it is to do nothing and, after doing nothing, rest”. My days can be that way.
Head into the ranger station and get a permit for 2 days in Pine Canyon 1. This has a lot bigger view than PC3 i used a week or two ago. I wanted 3 days but only 2 available …so Wednesday I’ll drive back to Panther Junction ( 8 miles ) and see what else is available. Should be wide open on a Wednesday. There is a spot called Nine Point Draw on the way out that i would like to stay at for a couple of days. We’ll see.
There is a comfortable place in the station to sit! No wind! I can’t believe the wifi won’t be full bars sitting there. I have already checked the schooner, when i pulled in, 1 bar so I go get the MagicAir and log on to ttrlt.n in the ranger station. Full bars! Except that, full bars doesn’t necessarily mean full bore. Too slow so i just updated the text and will load pictures and videos in the future. I’m a few days behind so it takes awhile to get everything uploaded. Done, and away we go to PC1.
Nice spot. BIG view. The kinda of spot you would want if you were keeping a eye out for the Comanches and Buffalo Hump. Although the schooner is pretty hard to hide. The sky is full of clouds this afternoon and i walk up the hillside to check out the high ground, take some pictures and have a safety meeting.
Real active sky this afternoon and evening. Clouds motoring, shadows changing as the sun plays hide and seek. A lot to watch. No sign of Comanches unless they’re riding fat tire mountain bikes so I’m good to go on finishing “3:10 to Yuma”.A brief rain shower, less than a minute. Time for dinner and a movie. Good night.
