Wednesday 2/21
Sunny morning with the valley bottom foggy. No movie last night. Sat outside and watched the stars. Saw my first shooting star of this trip. It was a streaker across the sky. My star recognization is getting better. A nice app certainly helps. I have “Star Walk” from the apple store.
Sort of decided to move on last night. The views are fabulous but i need some action, biking, hiking, physical so I’m going to check if Nine Point Draw is available and stay there and hike Dog Canyon tomorrow and if not available I’m going to hike it today and head back towards Del Rio and Austin. Just under 4 miles RT mostly flat desert. Either way Austin here i come.
Ranger station looks better. Maybe the wifi will be better also. Nope, not available. Nope, not any faster internet either. I sit thru a 10 pic upload cause that was the next day’s pictures. It’s a nice chair and a book display is close bye. I must not stink. Three kids hanging in the other chairs never gave me the stare. Finally the last pic uploads and i can finish cleaning that day up.
There is a book whispering to me, which reminds me of something i forgot. Sonny Hunter. I was sitting on a hillside and there were a lot of smaller birds preening for me and i had a epiphany. I have been asking them if they knew Sonny in human speak and really, i haven’t got much response …. so i tried bird whistling “Do you know Sonny Hunter?” And damn if i didn’t get one of them to fly away, seemed to be in a bit of a huff. Birds? Whispering books, “Roadside History of Texas”, done deal. It’s a good one.
Dog Canyon, three rigs parked.., cold…., windy…….
Hit Marathon, fuel up…but it only takes $75. So that’s 21.74 gals @$3.44. doesn’t fill Bill to the tippy tippy top tho. I’ll let it roll and next fill up sort it out. (Update: 12.08)Check for coverage and 4G-Full Bars, wow. I find a decent spot, make a sandwich and proceed to update ttrlt.n. Even got some video up. I think the prob w/ the GoPro is too long of vid. Needs to be about 30 sec to be able to upload.
Seminole Canyon, about 90 miles, tonight’s stop. Turn on XM, the Bridge and caterwaul my way there. My steering wheel drumming was serious at times. There are these elaborate shires along the road at times. I stopped and had a meeting with Tony. By the lights and memorabilia he must of been a really nice guy.
I pull in at 4:10, get old #44 and go setup and have a safety meeting. It’s cold. 48 and windy. After my meeting and reading the new book, i decide to take a walk before dark. Kuhl khakis, tee shirt, lightweight fleece, wind jacket, stocking cap and gloves. Froze my ass off. Got about 300 yards and turned around. Irked me. Got in the schooner, got long underwear, heavy fleece 1/4 zip and brown over coat. Okay, Texas I’m from Montana! Went back out and had a nice leisurely warm walk. At least it ain’t snowing.
Tomorrow, do a little exploring in this area.
