St. Patrick’s Day 3/17
Sorry St. Patrick, but if you ain’t from Texas, you ain’t getting no parade. Nor anything that i can see. Maybe they don’t need a reason to get s-faced. Not a lot of Irish names either, some just not a lot.
Overcast this morning, calling for some rain. We’ll see.
Some unfinished projects left to do but I’m ready to get moving. Enough of the big city and traffic. I like the weather. They say this is a unusual wet year but I like the smell after a storm and I ALWAYS liked thunder and lightning.
The trail to Abilene shouldn’t be too dusty and Abilene SP is just south of Abilene. I have been singing “Abilene,Abilene, prettiest town that I’ve ever seen. The people there, don’t treat you mean, in Abilene, my Abilene” all day long. I’m ready for a change…..”Amarillo by morning” will be the next two days. Been listening to the Mexican radio stations. Lots of accordion and brass. I give a little Mexican hoot when the mood strikes me.
Lots of historical exhibits. Texas celebrates their heritage better, and more, than any other state I’ve been in. Lots of first settler sites and, of course, battles. Went 240 miles or so today. Too far! With the way i stop and the speed i go, it should be about 180, 200 miles max. But get there i do and get the last spot! SPRING BREAK! Packed! Number 48. Nice secluded spot. $12. Take a nice walk around and check out the CCC work. Lots of Civilian Conservation Corp work in Texas. Saw one family each with a little bit of green except for the daughter who was full green. Been overcast and bits of rain all day but finally it’s clearing up. High 60s. Could be a nice sunset.
