Wednesday 10/31
Got everything loaded, filled and put away by 10:30am. Grabbed a shower, fresh clothes and emptied the waste baskets. Ready to go.
The Plan: Head to the coast and get to Palm Springs a couple of days before Thanksgiving. See as many waterfalls in Oregon as I can fit in. Brave the Columbia River Gorge Interstate 84 to Bridal Veil Falls area then backtrack to Hood River and go south. Cross over to the coast way south of Portland. Maybe stop and see Bruce Hunter in Springfield, maybe see Kevin White in Gold’s Beach. Stay out of California as much as possible but also stay warm.
But Bill is acting up again. I don’t get out of the driveway before the “squeal” starts again. Head to Whalen Tire. They pull all the tires off, check the brakes and drive shaft ( all okay). The consensus is Parking brake problem but the rear axle would need to be pulled apart to get to them and they wouldn’t have time till next week. Nope, I decide to go, and if it gets really bad deal with it on the way. It only squeals for 5-10 seconds in the morning right now. No charge from Whalen! Good place to do business! So now it’s 3pm and I am finally on the road.
Go up over Lolo Pass, snowing at the top and get a little over a 100 miles before I stop at Knife Edge river access. Nice campsite, nobody here. Been raining all afternoon. Reading a Louie L’Amour western and have the first book of “ A Game of Thrones” to reread. Should be good to go for awhile. Let’s see what tomorrow brings! Good night.[photogrid ids=”2231,2232,2233″ captions=”yes” columns=”two” fullwidth=”yes” ]
