Friday 11/2

Friday 11/2

Rained all night again. Starting to fall into my camping rhythm. Got going 8ish and it was slow going. The reason this is a good Porsche road is because it is really twisty and turny. Add rain and Bill into the mix and it is sloooow going. Muddled along at 10–15 mph for the first 45 minutes until i got down off the mountain. Then up the other side, not as twisty but slow go.

It finally quit raining about 11:00 and i got some cell coverage to boot. My phone will not ring for days but in 20 minutes this morning two phone calls( which i answered!) and a text! Crazy. No more rain. But the bloody wind made up for it! Winnndee! All day long. Got to Pendleton and decided to head south on Hwy 395 to see if i could get away from the wind. Rain makes me go slow but wind makes me hold on tight. The weather has kept me moving with very few walks.

Finally after going 60 miles south the wind is manageable and the sun is shining. But this pushes me a good 70-80 miles south of the Columbia River Gorge. Most of the CG are closed for the season but finally found a BLM site on the John Day River just outside Kimberly, Oregon. Long day. I like to have my campsite by 2:00pm or so but it was pushing 5 by the time i pulled in. Right on the river so that’s the consolation. I’m sitting here watching the river flow drinking a grapefruit shandy.

So tomorrow White River Falls SP and Sunday up into the gorge for some waterfalls.
