Tuesday 11/6

Don’t have far to go today so leisurely start. Pull out about 9:30 after updating ttrlt.n and $1.50 worth of a shower. $.50 for three minutes. It was nice.

Backtracking again today to stay away from the Portland traffic. Going to take HWY 35-Mt. Hood Scenic Byway south from Mt. Hood to HWY 213 then Silver Falls SP. I can tell from the map it gets pretty high and with all this rain…. we’ll see. Not much traffic coming the other way which could mean nothing or something. Mt. Hood is WHITE! Mostly cloud covered but it clears every so often, just never when i had the camera handy.

Mostly bare and dry except for twenty miles at the top. But no ice and it doesn’t take long to get over and start down the other side. Could of took a picture of the road snow covered but i figured you seen that, done that.

Fuel up in Sandy, Or. About 15 gals as i remember. Now I’m finally heading south! I was concerned that i don’t have enough time to make it to Palm Springs by Thanksgiving. I’ve gone close to a 1000 miles and really haven’t got very far south.

Okay, Silver Falls SP which, wonders of wonders, Silver Creek is the waterway! I like it! Pull in 2:30ish and decide on #29. And it cost $29.00 a night. I don’t very often pay for two nights immediately, ‘cause you never know. But I know I want to try the 7.5 mile Trail of the Ten Waterfalls tomorrow, so two it is.

For this $29.00 i get power and water! No cell coverage but plenty of power! I plug in all my things that need charged and get the bike down to kind of check out the area. I have some concerns about my ability to do 7+ miles so i don’t want too take any wrong turns at the start. Ride to the trailhead which is a little over a mile from the schooner. I’m going to walk from the schooner tomorrow so that’s going to add a couple more miles. Get a copy of the trail guide and see that i can make a 5 mile loop if necessary. Good! It’s a beautiful place, should be on everyone’s bucket list.

I’m reading a Bob Lee Swagger book by Stephen Hunter. Interesting. Getting to bed early ‘cause i got a busy day tomorrow. Good night.
