Decided last night to walk back up to canyon to some petroglyphs and see “whisper cave” in the morning and go down stream on the river in the afternoon. Started moving when the sun peeked over the canyon wall . Got solar going very first thing, no obstruction except the canyon walls later this afternoon. Ranger/young lady came by to talk. Carrying, so she’s the real deal. But just a kid. I saw where she lived , lots of solar and a propane tank. She’d been here all summer. It was real quiet last night. Paid for another night.
Cleaned my day pack out a bit. I want this thing as light as I can safely make it. Threw the 10 in and started out the cg. Joe “something” from “somewhere” Colorado asked if I would mind some company……. Heck no, love to have you. Older guy, my age. It was okay, he wasn’t any more stupid than I am. Bonus: he had been coming here for twenty years. Joe got antsy when I got the green chair set up to really gaze at the petroglyphs, he stood for a bit talking and when I said I thought I would walk further up the road, he decided to go back. Continued another 3/4 mile to a mild ridge I climbed.
Got back 1:30ish, had lunch, took a short nap. Walked down stream later and the trail just kept taking me higher. But I could see a nice spot I could get to on the river if I went back. I wanted to get my feet wet and if, not too cold, at least to my waist. So I backtrack and find the spot, walk in to my ankles, nope too cold.
Leaving tomorrow. Going to get started by 7:00 / 7:30. The road is narrow and steep in spots, so no traffic would be preference. We’ll see where I end up tomorrow night. This is a very nice spot.
