Another early start, just because I woke up early. I’ve gone back to tea in the morning. Coffee wasn’t doing me no favors. So, a cup of tea and away we go 7:30am. South Fork wasn’t more than a 1/2 hour away, so too early to think, I go west. Save the Rio Grande for another adventure.
Five or six FS campgrounds on the way to Pagosa Springs. All closed with locked gates. For crying out loud. Of course, no “closed” sign on the placard. Some were 3-4 miles off the road. I finally get into Pagosa Springs and stop at the local FS office. Yep, everything closed. They were no help or ideas what so ever. Hmmm.
I fuel up (12.0), go to the post office, swing by a bank for a roll of quarters and hit Walmart for some necessities. I should of updated the blog but I was trying to sort out where I was going to stay. Headed out of town 15-20 miles and saw a forest access sign for La Piedra Creek. Turn on to it and it says La Piedra Bridge 12 miles/ end of the road. The FS road is a #2 most of the way. Turns out to be perfect! Fished, (zero) walked, read. A nice spot. Only rig down here tonight.
I need BLM land. There is a office in Delores CO and I will get by there. Hopefully they are more help than FS. Tomorrow Mesa Verde….I think. Then after Mesa Verde, Canyon of the Ancients National Monument. I have been there before and it is really nice. That should put me in Utah next week sometime.
