Little bit of rain last night. It was light or the noise would of woke me. I put everything away every night. What’s everything? A nice fold up chair and a folding table or two. I have a 6×8 outdoor rug that is right out the schooner door with a portable step and a doormat that are the last things to be loaded when leaving. Those are left out. A cup of tea and off I go. Harper Ray, I had a cup of Missoula Evening tea, that your mother and you got me, last night. Good.
Mesa Verde is well done. The main visitor center is right as you get off US160. It’s another six miles to the park campground then 15-20 miles to the main exhibits. A lot of driving but all 25-45 mph so not so bad. The roads have numerous turnouts with ruins or view across the canyon at ruins. I hit them all. You can also go on ranger lead tours for $5 BUT you have to buy them all the way back at the visitor center. Limited people per tour, one tour per hour. Camping is good, and really good for national parks. Good privacy, level.
Mesa Verde is having some stabilization problems and some of the houses are closed. This was a major metropolitan area at one time . They believe here were more people living in the area in the 700-1200 then today, 31,000 then and 21,000 now. This whole 4-Corners civilization is our castles and mansions of Europe. I like playing “what were they thinking?” and you know what, it could be true because they just don’t know! Had a great day.
Bought postcards and a Mesa Verde pin for my hat. Got them written this afternoon will try to mail Sunday. Chicken for dinner. Tomorrow, a hike and general take it easy day. Oh christ, a lot more pictures taken today! Good night.
