Well eight o’clock came and went and I was still snuggled down this morning. Got up made some tea, cleaned up a bit, walked down and filled a gallon jug at the potable spigot. I keep 5-1 gallon filled plastic jugs for drinking water. I’ve broke into the third jug a time or two but never deeper. I drink just under a gallon a day. Sometimes more.
Decided to make this hike a little lower key. No day pack, just trekking pole, green chair, 2-pints water, binos and camera. No wallet, no 10mm, no first aid kit. A half mile or so from site to trailhead and 2.2 roundtrip to the point. The trail was steep switchbacks almost the whole way to the point. A good test of my conditioning ( or lack of ). At the top you can walk the old road “Knife Edge”. I uploaded a picture of it. Right on the bloody edge. Speaking of edge, there is no safety rail. I stayed well back, in case I tripped and stumbled. I didn’t. Bit windy on top, didn’t want a big gust of wind to blow me off.
Got back 3:45pm. Figured a shorter way back to the schooner from my vantage point on the way down. My watch says 594′ elevation gain. I had setup the solar before I left and it quietly was making power when I got back. Had a snack and a nap. Starting to make some headway in Game of Thrones. It was a nice, lazy, pleasant day. Tomorrow “Canyon of the Ancients” NM.
This place would be nuts during their busy season but today I was the only one on the trail. The camping closes 10/15. This is still pretty high, 7000′. The weather has been near perfect but need to get off these high mesa and get lower. Good night.
