Tuesday 10/8

Up and dressed by 8am this morning. A cup of tea, a game of where is the spot for the solar that I don’t need to move it and a decision to do the Hovenweep loop counter-clockwise. Not a bad start to my morning.

I have also decided to walk with both trekking poles…..no particular reason other than I haven’t done it for a long time. Leaves the green chair out. Hmmmm…. Oh well, away I go. I join up with a group of 8, grandma, gramps and 6 kids. From about five years old to eleven. Maybe great grand parents,  they were older. Three boys, three girls. I held up and watched and listened to them as they got down the trail. ALL had walking sticks! Sticks, not poles, except grandma and gramps, they had poles. Kids looked like they were from two maybe three families. I passed them when they turned to go back to the visitors center. Anyways, nice hike. Two poles? Okay, we’ll see.

Had lunch and decided to go down the Holly Trail and come up the canyon closes to the campground. I like the split rock, but I don’t like the split rock. The canyon ended so I had to scramble up and out onto the top of the mesa. Simply stuff. Then sort my way back to the campground.

Happened upon a stash of firewood on my way back this morning. Left by a departing camper. I see this happen and I have a habit of checking when I’m walking around. Two trips with a armful each and I still have some in Bill. Fire tonight, hope it’s not to cold.

Looks like the nearest CVS pharmacy is Farmington NM. If I head NW out of Hovenweep there isn’t any place to fill some prescriptions. Farmington is 100 miles or so SE from here. Thursday is supposed to be cold from that storm, so I may drive to Farmington and back plus stay warm in Bill. I’ll know tomorrow if they can fill all the prescriptions. It’s nice having cell coverage for a change. Good night.
