EOkay, moving again. Does not take long to go from awake to drivin. Change clothes, heat some water for tea and to wash my face. Fill the water bottles up, transfer everything to Bill and away we go. Then again, sometimes it takes me hours. The first 40 miles this morning is county road, paved but 35mph stuff. Turn XM to 68 and away we go. Nice drive! My favorite. Lots to see, no cars, go at your own pace. And small herds of horses roaming the road.
Then before you know it US191, think US12 from Garrison to Helena. Curvy but nice. Fueled in Monticello(11.28) . Found the Post Office got the cards mailed, so look for them. Took County Rd 101 into Canyonland NP. Kind of the back way. Paved but zigzagged thru the foothills instead of the valley. Lots of long views of Canyonlands. Air quality has been slightly hazy at times as I drive my turbo-diesel down the road.
BLM campground( Superbowl CG) about 6 miles from visitor center. Decided to stay there for a few days and range out everyday. Nice place, middle of a arroyo with big time views. A nice little walk to the top of a mesa with some view spots with benches. Watched the sunset from up there. Just a real different skyline.
I think there is a big gravel road that cuts deeper into the canyons, a mile or two back. Maybe 40-50 miles worth of road. Going to explore that because there should be free dispersal camping. Is a picnic table and a fire pit and a open air pit toilet worth $7.50 a night? Sometimes. But I don’t need any of those amenities. But they are nice at times.
I tweaked my right knee a bit. Bike riding and trying to push some hills. Took a couple of walks today but it’s sore if I twist it. I closed the rings on Jonathan, so I got a bit of exercise. Maybe more reading tomorrow less walking. Downloaded “Riders of the Purple Sage” by Zane Grey and I’m to the point in GOT were Robert has been gored and is dying. Or maybe just drive around tomorrow, we’ll see. Good night
