Tuesday 11/19

Rollin by 6:30am this morning. It takes 30 minutes to come in towards town and then 15 minutes to get to town. But no buses. Cloudy and dark down towards the southwest. Hmmm. Hit Interstate 10 and head west. Just skirt south of Tucson and hit US86. Goes mainly thru reservation for 100 miles.

Went thru a couple of Border Check Stations, never had to stop. Lots of Border Patrol vehicles! The road parallels the border, maybe 50 miles north. It’s desert as far as the eye can see and than a little farther. Lots of big doubles hauling dirt. Not afraid to pass you on a old, narrow, hilly road.

Get to the junction where I want to head south to Organ Pipe NM and my cell coverage is 4 bars. Park in a large gravel pull out and update blog. Nice speed. Pictures zooooomed across. Weather deteriorated with lots of thunder and rain.

I got finished and waited till the storm moved and headed south. Narrow road and lots of gullies to go down and up and one of those doubles pushing me. No where to really let him by so I just ignored him…but I don’t like tailgaters.

The CG is 5 miles from the border. Sits on a slight incline so everyone has a view of the area. Solar showers!! …. Colder than the rain! Nice toilets. Drained the blk/grey tanks and added water!  Rain let up about three and I have my raincoat and umbrella and a path to Visitors Center. Off I go. Little muddy in spots but pretty out. Got there just before they closed. Close to three miles out and back.

At this time, I find no leaks in the schooner. Rained hard for a hour or more with lots of thunder and lightning. A real cowering dog storm. Tomorrow more rain forecast. Good night.
