Beautiful morning. Wind has slowed to a breeze. Got my hiking boots on and walked up a couple of arroyos and around the tops of the canyons. Never really out of sight of the campground. Lots of butterflies! Walked down to the picnic area and crossed over the Old Safford Bridge (1913). Not much flow in Gila River. Sat in the middle of the bridge and talked to Allie.
I think i finally have my Tevas broke in! Been hiking and river walking in them. Starting to not notice them. The river is cold but not cold. Walked up arroyo a bit decided i really needed snake gaiters to continue. Reading a great book “Cities of Gold” Doug Preston about two guys on horseback who follow Coronado’s 1590’s Route looking for the seven cities of gold. Eight hundred miles thru Arizona and New Mexico. Perfect place to read it! Apache country! Lots of pueblos. El Morro, where i was a week or so ago was a stopping point. Great stuff.
