Rollin’

Monday/Tuesday

10/24-25

Bit out of practice. Finally got rolling about 5:00pm Monday. Cold, windy, bit of rain. Camped at the fishing access just over the Bitterroot River south of Darby. We’ve put in there to float. Still shaking down. Didn’t remember to put the window insulation up nor the hatch’s insulated cover. Got down to 29F but the worse part is the condensation on the windows and hatch. Needed a towel to sop the condensation up. Three blanket night.

Took a short walk this morning. By the river thru tall grass. Wet tall grass. Had my loafers on so ended up with soaked feet. I might as well walked in the water next to shore. Bill smelled like wet smelly wool socks.

Lost Trail Pass, marginal Montana side, more icy than snow-packed. Slow go. Idaho side fine. Kept Bill 55-57 mph. Pushing 14+ mpg. It will change when i do the Interstate past Salt Lake megalopolis. Spent a little time adjusting my seat to find that perfect spot. Tried it for 20 miles or so than switch it around a bit. A work in progress.

Have stopped overnight at Craters of the Moon NM. They don’t take cash, CC or debit, $4 per night. The sun is shining but 45F. Got a bit of a walk in, but damn the wind made it short. Depending on the weather i might get a better walk in tomorrow morning.  The sun has gone down, i got the heater on and salmon with rice for dinner. Tomorrow the SLC portion of the drive. Should be in central Utah tomorrow evening. Hope the weather warms up or continue south till it does.
