Sitting here in shorts and tee shirt. Virgin River Gorge (2640’) just off the interstate. Not much noise and the lights from the Arizona Highway Patrol pulling people over has been entertaining this evening.
Left this morning 35F. Followed Cottonwood Wash Road for 40 miles of #2 dirt road. Mainly twisty and decent conditions for a road in the Grand Staircase Escalante 50 miles from nowhere. Too cold for windows down. Saw a couple of spots i really liked and actually pulled in to one thinkin’ i might just stay one more night high. (5800’) Sat outside and had a yogurt and thought different.
The drive across the bottom of Utah to the interstate takes you thru Zion NP. There are two narrow tunnels you must go thru. The schooner is 8’1” wide and 7’10” the widest they allow before they stop opposing traffic so you can drive down the middle of the one mile tunnel. Oh, and charge you $15 for the honor! But didn’t have to turn around and got to set the pace. It takes a few minutes to clear the tunnel “Old Mister 15 MPH Boy”. Like leading a parade.
Fueled in St. George. Diesel been $5.39 fairly consistent but seen $5.14 here. Gas is what jumps around $4.65/$4.99. Still averaging just under 14 MPG. Bill just does his job.
Lake Mead is calling me, i hope it isn’t Dry Lake Mead before i get there. Lots of dispersal camping and established CG. At least, that’s what I’m thinking tonight.
