Padre Island

On the road by 8:30. Need to fuel and hit the market. There isn’t a lot of big national chain grocery stores in Texas that i have seen. H-E-B markets is the king in Texas. I have been in enough of them to understand their layout and enjoy shopping in them. Fuel is in the mid four dollar range for diesel and under $3 for gas.

The drive to the island is busy. But I’m getting use to traffic, don’t care for it but can deal with it. I had checked all the state parks to see if i could get a spot but all booked up. The two National Park campgrounds are marginal at best and first come first serve. Think parking lot. But i got #31 at Bird Island CG and i have large RV’s parked on both sides of me. Generator city. Being deaf does have some advantages. I just try to have tunnel vision and ignore the neighbors when possible. Lots of yapping ankle biters. But I’m right on the shore and it is okay. Lots of birds. Got a nice walk in and got my feet wet. Tomorrow a Blaze ride. Paid for two nights but i think i will stay for another two and leave Monday for ?

Decided to walk across the island this morning…started as a normal walk but half way thru i looked at the satellite view and decided it was doable. The side I’m camped on is a lagoon called Laguna Madre. The other side is the gulf. Lots more wind and breaking waves gulf side. Part road, part sea grass about 2.5 miles across. There was  a semi path to get thru all the sea grass. My calf is fine. Wished i had brought the green chair tho. Breezy overcast won’t see the sun today. I have a wonderful diving bird show going on this afternoon. Too breezy to sit outside but at 65F warm enough to leave the door open

Tomorrow forecast sunny and breezy….well the breezy part was correct. No sun today. Got Blaze out and rode to visitors center and the beach that you can “drive on”. No way Bill is driving on it but it was perfect for Blaze. Spent the morning exploring the seashore and battling the wind. Watched a couple of fishermen catch a lot of fish in Laguna Madre in the afternoon. All in all it’s been okay but I’m moving tomorrow to Goose Island State Park for four days. Not as exposed to the wind in the wooded area I’m staying at. (I hope) Closer to town so maybe Blaze will come in handy. We’ll see.
