Goose Island

Padres Island parallels the Texas Coast and Goose Island is to the north of where I’m camped. Looks like there is a road that crosses over to the mainland at the tip of the island. Except it’s a ferry. I’m not getting on the ferry. A pleasant drive along the island. But it’s windy and cloudy and not ….. what I was hoping for. I think this is my 4th or 5th day on the island and one day has been okay. I think this vision i have in my head is not doable in Texas.

Goose Island is okay. I’m in the wooded area which gives some shelter from the wind. On a nice calm day the “island” camping on the shores of the Gulf could be nice but I’m happy being in the wooded area. My site is right on a corner of the entry and i get traffic and walkers but it has been cold enough that I’ve been inside reading. Lots of nice walks and bike rides. There is a pier that goes waaaay out into the bay. The water looks to be a couple of feet deep. Bait fisher persons using shrimp off the pier. Too windy, too cold for this fishermen.

Lots of air boats! Loud doesn’t do them justice. LOUD! I shot a video of loading operation but it was so loud it shut my mic down on my phone. LOUD. Duck hunters, i assume ducks or maybe shotgun fishermen. They go out early, before daybreak. The put-in access is maybe a mile in a direct line from the schooner. The first morning i thought the park guys were running a backhoe next to my site. I actually got up to give them hell and nobody there but still the noise seem close. Didn’t figure it out till later in the day when i was at the access site when they came in about 10:30am. You can hear them for a long ways.

My DC-DC charger is bitch’en. I haven’t had the solar panel out. Easy four days and most likely five days before i need to charge. I rarely stay put that long and in a few hours of driving I’m back to full!

Got some bike riding in and some nice walks. My calf seems okay as long as i don’t do anything stupid. The sun has been out a bit but still breezy. Rode Blaze to see the Big Tree. A old oak that is big. I always visualize Robin Hood in these trees. Harper Moore you would like climbing on it.

Enough of the gulf coast going to head inland to Palmetto State Park for a few days. About 75 miles from Goose Island and half way back to Austin.
