Tuesday 10/26
I’m ready to go! A couple of days too long. The plan is south on NM90 then north on US70. NM90 takes you off the mesa into a valley then US70 takes you up the valley and back up on the mesa. Only way to get were i want to go. Nice drive! A bit windy!! Bill got pushed around a bit. Dually just makes sense. The knock on dually is off-road ability. I have been in places i wished i wasn’t and having dually was never the reason. 4×4 twice in 45000 miles. Once just outside Joshua Tree NP in California trying to do 180 and the front end sunk in soft sand and once in Canyonlands NP that i had to both in and out and that was stupid.
Fueled up in Lordsburg Az. 12.84 mpg. A really nice day with a short way (120 miles) to go. The campground is off the road 4 miles but it is nice #5 road. Have my choice of campsites. One sad looking tent in one spot. Did i say it was windy? I setup in #4 and try to block the wind with Bill and the sun shelter. Go in, have lunch and walk down to pay for a couple of days. I take a closer look at the tent, nobody there, shit, the tent is 10 yards down from the tent spot ,hung up in a sharp bush. Did I say the wind was blowing? Five Volleyball size rocks to make sure it didn’t go any farther.
The wind is going to to settle down tonight and the rest of the week but it was windy today.
Nice campsite right by Gila River. Some walking, some biking and three bars reception.
