A hot shower, in the morning, after crapping in a sit down toilet, it’s the simple things in life. I got wood, I got water, I need some groceries, fuel up and ready to hit the “Hole in the Rock” #3 gravel road. 56 miles in, ah, 56 miles OUT. Nice wide road, dry but there has been a lot of traffic on this road. Wwaasshh board. (Sigh) It was a bit of a PITA and I suffered thru 26 miles or so till a sign to Egypt 10 miles on a side road. My original thought on heading that way was just camping in the next mile or two. The road was a #1+ so off I go. 6 miles in after coming down a hill ….. never mind when I had to ford the stream and make a quick l/r and gas it to get up to the top of the hill, I was beginning to rethink my “it’s be fine” thought! Now, it isn’t like it’s a Walmart parking lot out here. It takes awhile and circumstances to get the rig turned. Got it done on the top of the plateau and started back. Down the hill quick r/l into the stream and right back up the other side. Easy/peasy. Done, cake. Having all the torque of the diesel and the stability of the duallies is very calming…..probably not as dangerous as it reads….
Found a decent spot just off the main road with a terrific view and the local steers for company. Took a walk down the dry wash below my site. Most of these dry washes are cool places to hike. Hard to get lost. Lots of different tracks Tyler. I kind of circled my site and went up on the ridge and frightened the cows. Never saw any traffic or people from about 4 on. Skies were dark. I have a really good star program on the IPad. Slept from 8pm to 8am. I had a busy day!
Miles: 76 most on the dirt
