Wednesday 1/31
Up early, have coffee. Get all situated and damn, the tire is low. I could change a tire IF I really had to, but not high on my list. I should get my nice 12v compressor and…oh that’s right, one of those things I didn’t get accomplished before I left. Ooookay, the tire is at 30# s/b at 70#. But Bill is nicely balanced and I don’t really feel the low tire. Wilcox 36 miles, I’ll go slow…I’ll go slower.
Get to Wilcox and Joe’s Tire Shop but Joe really doesn’t want to deal with it which I knew as soon as he looked up with that “I really don’t want to deal with this” look. So Buddy’s Tire and Repair right down the block. Pull up, 3 guys standing there giving me the “what’s his problem” look. The “boss, the “talker” and the “worker”. Explain Bill’s front hoof is low. Boom, boss looks at worker, worker has got jack already and up he goes and the sweet sound of a impact wrench. Boss tells talker to do something but he’s telling me about a deuce and a half he going to tear the… yada ,yada, yada. Worker has the tire off and in the tank of water and found a screw. A screw, how bloody long has it been in there? Worker does his job and repairs Bill’s hoof. $20.00. There is a Autozone just down the block and I go in and buy that nice 12v compressor!
Now, Interstate 10 runs thru Wilcox and if I get on it and go east about 50 miles I can get on NM80 and pick up NM9 on the other side of the Chiricahuas Mountains. That’s what I do. Stop at a nice rest area with cell coverage so I can update TTRLT.N and do some emails. Off to NM80, then south to NM9 then El Paso.
I’m going to refer to the Border Patrol as “Tire Draggers”. I watched them today drag tires down a 12-14’ open area next to a 4’ fence for a 100 miles. There would be no way to cross it without leaving a trace. They must fly over it looking for footprints. Crazy
There is a New Mexico SP called Pancho Villa on the way to El Paso. I get there about 2:00pm, it’s 71 degrees and I’m staying. $10.00 with showers! A little bike ride, a little dinner and now a shower and some Lonesome Dove. Good night.
Side note: Bad, bad job on pictures. Will work on it!
