Monday 2/5

Nice CG but had some young fellows playing tribal drums till late camped close. Like a Walmart parking lot this morning, rigs everywhere. I lost my new ss water bottle. After lunch at the teepees yesterday, i left with the back door of the schooner open. Everything was put away but the bottle. Figured it out after a 1/2 mile but back tracking couldn’t find it.

I have a 3l bladder for Exos and putting it in was going to happen next hike anyways. I’ll just have to find another ss bottle with more significance. Full regalia w/ 3 liters of water will give the shoulders some work.

I shot more GoPro today, haven’t edited or viewed yet. It was fabulous country today! Hope the GP sees it the same as me.
Entered the park, the entrance station was closed but got the map and newspaper. Right there is a #2 gravel( really a #4 ) that goes to Santa Elena Canyon. One of the highlights of the park. Off we go, washboard city then stretches of decent dirt road. About 13 miles total. Beautiful country.

Hiked up the canyon till the cliffs cut you off. The Rio Grande flows thru it. Big lazy, actually backflowing in that area. Hugh canyon, lots of people. Old ones, young ones, fit ones, not so fit ones. Old, would be my over all impression. No Exos, just camera, binos, bottle of water. Stick of course. Nice. Going to head for Chisos Mountain CG.

A long uphill climb for Bill to get to the top and over to the CG. A little crowded in the CG. Looks like #35. Get Bill level and walk over and pay $14.00. That’s for 2 nights. I’m going to hike to Window pour off tomorrow. A little over 4 miles round trip. About 500’ gain in 2 miles.

Today after checking in and a safety meeting, i walked to the lodge and store, about 2 mile loop. I had some good salsa but no chips. It also is the start of tomorrow’s hike so I know where I’m going in the morning. A bag of Tortilla scoops is heavier than the green chair. By far.

Pretty tight quarters at Chisos CG. Not the secluded with view of the SP. Lots of neighbors. It’ll work fine. I may have to use the generator tomorrow. I haven’t been driving long distances so Bill doesn’t charge the schooner to the tippy tippy top. I’ll use the CPAP tonight and won’t move tomorrow so to use the CPAP tomorrow night, I’ll have to run the generator. We’ll see if the Yamaha will start. Sleeping is no different than home. Maybe better on the road.

Finished Lonesome Dove-Early Years maybe I’ll read the books again. Just about done with Lonesome dove on DVD. Call is fixin’ to haul Gus’s body back to Emily’s orchard. The original plan with the laptop was watch movies, to take on all the chores of the ipad, plus be able to store and edit videos. I think it might of happened except for two things. Ease of charging ipad and the Canon app for wireless downloading for super camera. I have to use a invertor to charge the laptop, so only when running down the road. Only takes a hour but …. The ipad doesn’t have enough space to load a lot of videos. The laptop, plenty! So I type this on the ipad with a decent size keyboard, and since I’m a two finger typer, it works fine. I wish i could type without looking but i can’t even type without hunting. I load everything to the website except videos from ipad. Videos, i load from laptop….or will, since i haven’t yet this trip. Geez Louise, it’s not bad.
