Thursday 2/8
Well i went to sleep last night thinking I’d get a walk or bike ride in today. Ahh, not much. Did get the bike fully operational. Used the new 12v pump to pump the tires up after futzing with the hand pump. I think a part has vibrated off my bike hand pump or I’m just dumb. Wouldn’t work. Quick work with Mr. Slime! Now i just need to figure out how to carry it with a battery when bike riding? I took my strap-on toe clips off. I know, I know. A concession to ….the ability to ride my bike in my crocs!
Cleaned house, read, straighten up, stared around, walked around, rode the bike up the road a couple of times as i did different things. Too steep, lowest gear i can pedal it. But right here to steep. NICE coming back down. I’m ready for a bike ride. Something more in my knees capability. So really did nothing but hang out enjoy the view, watch for soaring birds, read some more. Robin Hobbs- Farseer Series. I even laid down about 2 and tried to nap. Hands behind head, watching clouds past by the roof vent.
Tomorrow, head out north to Marathon, TX. Then back south- east towards Del Rio. Looks like a lot of SP in the area. Going to call Uncle J, see what his schedule is in the next few weeks. Big Bend NP….nice. Big Bend SP…nice too. I’ve spent more time in NP this trip and i must say the primitive vehicle camping is as good as it gets. Accessible, but not easily. Secluded, without a doubt, but still in a numbered campsite. Schooner City out here. This is really what we are all about. The thought has occurred a couple of times to reload in Marathon and head back. Fishing license/ info high on the list. Better maps of Texas, high on the list. Grocery run, HIGH on the list. Golf, high on the list. Kayak….could of used one a couple of times…. hmmm. I’m going to get back in the water. Swimming exercise. Low impact. We’ll see.
Ready to go early. Chair put away, bike remounted, mat rolled up, dishes done. Should be a nice drive out TX 385. A few venues to see in the park on the way out. This southwest Texas area, certainly in the top five. Southeast Utah Four Corners, Maine Coast, Yosemite/Sierras, say there’s somewhere i haven’t been in awhile. Glacier, Monument Valley. Yellowstone/ Wind River / Grand Tetons, oh hell, never mind . A place you should come to, while it is still wild.
