Thursday 2/22
Going into virgin country today. It’s overcast, 38. There was a sign for Pecos River access about a mile before the CG turnoff. I back track and head south towards Mexico. I’m always a little more heads up when close to the border. Not much, but more. No worries, the road ends at a big access site. BIG. From the overlook the river looks huge. But it really is the tail end of the Pecos RIGHT before it empties into the Rio Grande. So it is just a big back water. Isn’t any wider than 30’ were it lazily dumps into the Rio Grande (known as “Rio Bravo” in Mexico). Messed around there, took a nature walk,, bs’ed with some NPS workers. A longer way to go then when i started this morning so best roll.
Thirty six miles to Del Rio, then US377 for 32 miles to Bracketvile then Texas Ranch road 674 for sixty miles. A true road less traveled. A 40-45 max. Nice “brush country” road. Curvy, hilly, less traveled. A perfect motorcycle road. Stopped at all the historical sites. So i have seen deer, birds, turkey vultures(lots!), 2 beautiful hawks this morning, javalinas, armadillos and coyotes. Coyotes seem the lest well liked.
Then back on 377 another 45 miles to South Llano SP. No service. I should let Uncle J know I’m on the way. Send text, nope. Darn. Pull in to the park and they have wifi. Send email. Nope, just saw it didn’t go. I’ll try in the morning.$20 campsite tonight, power & water. The only way they have it. So i can be a energy pig tonight. At least everything should be at full charge tomorrow.
The wifi seemed good at the ranger station. I walked up to resend Uncle J message. Nope, looks like wifi closes with the office. Oh well. Ribeye steak w/ jalapeño potato salad & Lemon Shortbread for dessert.
I’m thinking about changing my quote on ttrlt.n. I need to google “How sweet it is to do nothing and, after doing nothing, rest” It isn’t like i didn’t plagiarize from the wallflowers. That line tho, is one of my favorites. Maybe i should have rotating quotes. I can see you rolling your eyes Michael! Need to think that thru a bit more.
The weather is dreary. Zero sun today. Highest i saw was 48. But as long as the wind doesn’t blow it’s fine. Did dinner outside, listened to some classical. Jacket weather but pleasant. Inside, 7pm, lil buddy on, everything that needs charged is plugged in, a nice cuppa, a good book. Good night.
