Saturday 11/3
Beautiful morning. Got up and reorganized the back of Bill. I needed the tow rope yesterday to pull someone out of the barrow pit. It was going to be a major unload to get to it. Weird situation. A 20 something with a old man in the front seat had one back wheel in the ditch and was trying to push it out from behind. I stopped and asked if he a had a tow rope, nope. Hmmm,okay throw on hazard lights and proceed to get to the tow rope when another Montana Power type truck stops also. Two guys jump out to help and the kid says something, jumps in his car and drives it out of the pit and takes off. WTH? Oh well, anyways got the tow rope were i could get to it easier this morning. Also covered the rear wheel and derailleur of the bike with a “ultra” heavy duty trash bag. We’ll see.
Hwy 402 to Hwy 19 to Hwy 218 to Hwy 293 to Hwy 97 to Hwy 197 to Hwy 216. Geez, a lot of turns to keep track of today. Stopped at the Claro Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Did a small hike of a couple of miles to see some cool fossils and history of the earth. Nice. Nobody else there.
My driving timing is way off. Didn’t get to White River Falls till 1:30pm. Hmmm, didn’t matter ‘cause it was “Closed for the Winter” Eight or ten cars parked by the gate but no where to put Bill. Pull over, get the IPad out, and connect to my phone. I have a great app called “Allstays” that really shows all of the camping in the area. A couple of BLM sites on the Deschutes River about 7 miles away. Roger
Nice spot right on the river, $6.00 with my Senior Pass! Walked up and down the river a ways from the CG and talked to a couple of fishermen, who gave me some flies to try. Salmon, steelhead and trout are in the river. Maybe a one day license tomorrow. The girls FaceTimed me this afternoon, that’s always nice. Bill needs to go and have a fuel filter changed on Monday, so staying here tomorrow and then finally on Monday, after Bill is done, waterfalls!
