Monday 11/12

Monday 11/12

Woke up about 2am this morning freezing. Got up and looked at my thermometer and it was 10F. Of course the schooner was froze up. Got all the heaters going and opened all the cabinets doors and in about 45 minutes everything was flowing. It’s pretty simply to winterize and takes about 1/2 gal of RV antifreeze. And Boy Scout that i am, i had thrown in a gallon before i left. Got everything done and went back to bed. Woke at 6am and looked at the thermostat and it was 5F. No sense hanging out, made a cup of tea and shivered on my way by 6:30.

Never got above 15F till i hit Winnemucca NV about 250 miles away. Brrrr! Screw this, no dilly dally, I’m heading to Death Valley. I’m not going to get there today so i start looking for a place about 2pm to camp. I also need to stay as low in elevation as possible, which means a little bit of Interstate 80 driving. I see a large body of water off to my right and start thinking that there will be a CG somewhere close. There is, Rye Patch Reservoir. Only 2 other campers so plenty of sites. The temp was mid-thirties. Took a couple of small walks around the dam to stretch my legs. Nice heated bathroom!

It will be a early start tomorrow also. I think if i get out early and drive late i can get to Deatrh Valley tomorrow. We’ll see.
