Tuesday 11/13

Cold again this morning, 15F. Brrrr! On the road by 6:30am. Going to follow HWY 95 south towards Fallon NV then on to Tonopah and from there, Death Valley. I know there is a Walmart in Fallon where i can stock up on more 1# propane and a couple more gallons of RV antifreeze. I have a plan, when i think it will get real cold, on how to utilize the water system then winterize it. No shitter or sink when it gets this cold.

Starts to warm up into the mid-40’s as i get further south. It will be close to 350 miles today, which is a long day for me. Speed limit on this road is 70 MPH. Bill and i like 62MPH. Of course everyone but me is going way over the limit, including the truckers. It works out okay, i going fast enough not to be a hazard and slow enough that everyone can get past me without too much delay. I am very courteous to the truckers and adjust my speed to make their passes fast.

No stopping today other than Walker Lake, home to the “Largest Ammo Dump” in the world. Hundreds of bunkers and buildings. not the place to be if someone drops a bomb. Got some good gas mileage today at 62MPH, 13.28 mpg. Over a mile better then i have been averaging. I’ve gone a little over 2100 miles since leaving Missoula.

Get to the entrance to Death Valley about 4pm and it is another 25 miles to Stovepipe Wells CG. There is a lot of traffic in the Park and i hope i don’t have any trouble getting a site. Get to the CG and it is a …..parking lot! Which is fine. Get old #190 for $7 and settle in. I think I’ll stay for 2-3 days then head to 29 Palms and Joshua Tree.
