Wednesday 10/16

It’s fifty miles to Moab. Rollin by 7:50am. First twenty miles is twisty and my speed. No traffic going my way. Nice. The last thirty miles is US191, think 93N mso to polson. Now I’ve used Moab previous to reload. I kind of remember where the shower was and sort of where  the propane/ dump place was. So after driving around for twenty minutes I put it in my phone and was there in less than 2 minutes. Propane, dump tanks and add fresh potable water in one stop and a little local place, Sandy’s Farm and Fuel and RV Service balances out my Walmart excess. I think she was nice I didn’t have my ears on so it was little smilely.  Been carrying a bigger load of water. Above 2/3, which would be minimum 20 gallons. Sometimes 30 gallons. Can’t have too much water in the desert.

I had found the showers while looking for propane. A laundry was right there but I went in and all machines (8) were in use. Went looking for another laundromat,  one had bad parking and one that was closed down. By the time I made it back to the original laundromat, everything was freed up. Two machines for wash at $4.50 each. Which I thought was out of line. I always have quarters, but that cleaned me out. Got them going and walked down to the bank and got two more rolls of quarters. Got back and switched them over to one dryer and walked to the bike shop where the shower was. Shower $5. Got back, folded the clothes and sheets and took Bill across the street to the market. Got groceries done and stopped at Wendy’s and ate lunch in the schooner as I uploaded to the blog.

Okay, chores done! Fresh start, clean sheets, lots of food, plenty of water and a bathroom for whenever the mood hits me. Fueled (12.48) Head out of town to enter Canyonlands from the North. Island in the Sky is the name of this section. First, it’s twoish, so I need to find a place to camp. Two campgrounds, BLM on the way in. Both crowded but with sites. There is a road, Mineral Bottoms Rd, that runs down to the Colorado River, like 22 miles. Go down this#4 gravel road, ten miles plus, till I spot a road going out towards some buttes. I’m maybe 2-3 miles off the main gravel road, right on the edge of the canyons. Nice, free! The road in, was slow go at times. I walked 1/2 mile or so twice, to make sure I had a place to turn around, if needed. Nice spot. Dark! No moon yet.

I may just stay here tomorrow and read. Not sure yet, we’ll see in the morning. Good night.
