Rollin by 8:09am. The plan is to drive the roads on top of the canyons. Think broccoli. Then hike out to some of the points and overlooks. Need to close the rings on Jonathan today. Slow and easy and I’ll get my exercise in. Some nice views on my way to the Entrance Station. Big flashing highway sign to expect long waits because of overcrowding. Four day Utah school holiday started yesterday. I’m early and there is no traffic but all the parking areas are 3/4 full already. Doesn’t matter, I got my sort of plan and people are part of it. You see the same people as you stop at these roadside overlooks. Are you obligated to say hello every time now? A word or two maybe? I find the head nod works as well as the steering wheel finger. It’s not actually the saying of “Hello” or what ever greeting you use, it’s if you follow up with anything else. Anything! That can open the flood gates. I’m pretty much a nodder.
Made the drive, did the walks now camped on BLM just outside the park. Tomorrow going to explore the road that parallels the Colorado River just to the NE of Moab. Looks like a few CG within 10-15 miles of Moab. Be nice if I could find something close enough to bike back and forth to Moab. I know there is a bike bath next to the river. We’ll see. My thoughts are people will be leaving to go home tomorrow and spots should open up. If not I’ll come back out here and try again Sunday for a spot if it looked worthwhile. Good night.
