Got going right at daybreak. Packed the carpet and doormat by flashlight….no, I don’t think so. Got rollin’ about 9am. Campground pretty cleared out by the time I get out, use the bathroom, pack up the outdoor carpet and floormat and start to roll. There are a couple of things I would like to do in Bluff. As it turns out, Bluff is a laundromat and a gas station. Well, I can do one of the things, fuel.(11.58)
Valley of the Gods is the start of Monument Valley. This is where a lot of the classic John Wayne movies where filmed. This is BLM land but as you get south it becomes Navajo Res. Monument Valley is about forty miles south. Seventeen miles gravel road winds around this valley with multiple camping spots. Tonight I’m about four miles in from the east. Nice spot, kinda behind a rise. Hugh views! Took a short walk to stretch my knee, still pretty tender but a lot better. I’m not sure you are allowed to walk off the road. EVERYWHERE they talk about the “mat” and how it takes decades for it mature and your “footstep” will destroy it for future generations. They want you to walk on rock or any ground that could be considered a wash.I understand where they are coming from. I have seen the trails beaten down a foot or more. I’m not sure what the answer is for the grandkids but if they are traipsing around this area in 15-20 years and see a size twelve Salomon foot print, hopefully it’s mine.
Sunset was nothing except the place your are watching it from. Tomorrow, find another spot then Tuesday head out. Good night.
