Thursday 3/30

Thursday 3/30

Geez, I get up this morning and it is perfect! Sunny, no wind and mid 40’s. But I’m committed to Canyon De Chelly and you know how I hate to deviate from the plan. So on the road by 8:00am back 42 miles towards Blanding/Bluff. The weather in Colorado isn’t quite what I hoped for so I’m edging south and west.

Truly a uneventful day, if you call motoring around Utah looking at Petroglyphs uneventful. I shot some video of JUST a normal drive. Hopefully I can load the videos I shot yesterday and the rest of the pictures. The little baby was too tired and no patiences last night to load videos. I looked back thru the last three weeks and was overwhelmed by all that I got accomplished. I have really had some adventures!

Speaking of adventures, if it isn’t to stormy (that’s a big if) I’m going to drive up the East side of Comb Canyon. Google it! Do it! I plan on walking to some of these ruins. Will keep you informed of in and out. Cell coverage has been good once I got out of all the canyons.

Okay, I fixed the bike tire today. (I think. Tomorrow I’ll know for sure) And yes Dennis I marked the valve stem and Found what was causing the problem! But thanks for thinking of it. And no I didn’t put the new tube in. I am a craftsman, that patch won’t leak!

Oh, so where am I? Sand Island Campground, Bluff Ut. BLM right on the San Juan River. Didn’t make it very far, my guess less than 50 miles. BUT, in Bluff there is a old fort, oddly enough Fort Bluff. See the pictures! Very nicely done!! Interesting and accurate. Bluff was a early Mormon settlement and the LDS church must be the benefactor. Compared to other exhibits of this style, head and shoulders, or should I say, tens of thousands of dollars above. I was impressed! See the pictures!

So I stop at Ft Bluff, do the tourist thing and start heading out of town. Not 10 miles out of “town” Sand Island Campground. I normally always look at these campgrounds. I’m here. A nice spot right on the river-a nice change from canyon land. It’s sunny, there are some Petroglyphs to see and I saw a laundry on my way out of town. “Town” means more than 5 houses in a cluster. Doesn’t mean there is a market but plenty of restaurants, gift shops and a Laundromat! Do you think that the laundromat in Bluff Ut was clean and tidy, free wi-fi and a coffee Bristo? You’d be wrong. Two banks of 12 washers back to back (24). Everyone except 4 had green tape across the money slot ($1.25). And two out of those 4 were being used. I look inside the two available and they look cleaner than my dirty underwear so away we go. Should of been 3 loads, stuffed it into 2. Okay now……no quarter machine. I go grab my change container and I got enough for ONE load. Now we’re rolling. The other two machines were being used by a small family with two little girls. They saw my problem. There advice was NOT to go to the little store/gas station ’cause they would tell me to pound sand. I had to walk a 1/4 mile to a motel and got $5.00 in quarters! Success.

Should be here for a couple of days. Good night.

  1. Happy Birthday Harry!
Love the pictures. Some stop living when they retire but you begin.
Obviously happy. How rare is that these days. Safe travels Harry.
