Friday 4/14
Bill seems fine but only time will tell. Headed south on AZ191 into the stronghold of Apache country. It’s not desolate, at least not in April, you’ve seen the cacti flowers, but it’s a hard country. I spent a lot of time in this type of desert growing up. Every weekend. It’s the reason I don’t hear very well. The canyon in the Chiricahua NM is serene and if the creek had any water flowing would of been nice to spend a afternoon. No water, a unnatural amount of REI hatted hikers with their convertibles on. Gone like a Apache stealing a horse!
Mostly a bus man holiday today. The roads are certainly less traveled and a bit of Elton John Tumbleweed Connections on the “Bose” makes for not a bad morning. Hit Bisbee Az knowing there is a lot of history but unfortunately the town is …..not built to handle the modern day crowds. First “crowds” I’ve seen since Bryce Canyon months ago. Reached the Interstate and headed towards Tucson.
Thank Goodness! Saguaro NP! It is just on the outskirts of Tucson. It was late and they didn’t have a campground so i still needed to find that. Only stayed a couple of hours. Find a campsite north of Tucson called Molina Canyon. As I drive up the canyon and see some really sweet Santa Fe style houses on the canyon walls I think of Hovenweep and their skill and the thing that stands out is ….location, location, location!
Five bucks, decent spot, no shitter about 10 miles outside Tucson.
Tomorrow get thru Tucson early and more Interstate, yuk! No east west roads other than I8 and I10. We’ll see how it goes.
